Luss Estates enjoys significant woodland resources with approximately 3000 acres devoted to forestry. Of this, around 75% is semi-natural woodland and 25% commercial plantation of mainly spruce and larch, producing approximately 5-10,000 tonnes of high quality timber every five years or so.
These are sustainable resources and it is the Estates' policy to manage them not solely as a source of income, but as an integral element within the wider landscape and environment, striking a balance between ecology, silviculture and economics.
Further, with the world's timber resources continuing to be stretched, Luss Estates intends to extend this forestry operation with new plantings of further sustainable woodland in Glen Douglas.
