Luss Estates continue to support the Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association with their stock enhancemnet efforts on the Loch for salmon and seatrout. L.L.A.I.A. has pledged to spend £30,000 this year on their stock enhancement programme. Luss Estates continues to support the association and has made a £2,500 donation towards the programme.
The Stock Improvement Working Group (S.I.W.G) was set up by the L.L.A.I.A. after recognising a decline in salmon and seatrout stock in the Lomond system. Each year, in autumn, a team of association anglers visit the rivers and burns within the Lomond system to catch Brood Fish for the hatchery.
During the mid eighties, Loch Lomond was unbeatable for its Sea Trout fishing. Since that period, in keeping with other Sea Trout fisheries, the numbers of Sea Trout have fallen.
In order to try and combat this decline, steps were taken in 1997 to ban the killing of Sea Trout until May 1st and this has improved the availability of fish over the summer. The ongoing restocking programme will ensure that Loch Lomond returns to be the best Sea Trout loch in Scotland.
The Lomond system provides some of the best game and coarse fishing available in the UK. Loch Lomond Angling Improvement Association has a membership and provides permits to visitors fishing on Loch Lomond, so that it continues to provide one of the most diverse and extensive range of fishing opportunity open to angling club in the UK.
