Estate Director

A fantastic opportunity to lead, manage and expand the rural property portfolio of Luss Estates Company, a large, diverse, family-owned Highland Estate extending to around 45,000 acres on the western shores of Loch Lomond, almost entirely within the boundaries of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

The Estate encompasses a wide range of enterprises, including a commercial and residential property portfolio, let farms, commercial forestry and native woodlands, a hydro scheme, an in-hand hill farm, a game department, as well as tourism and leisure operations, which are managed separately.

Location

The Estate Office is located close to the picturesque village of Luss and within easy reach of the historic town of Helensburgh, just 40 minutes from central Glasgow. Luss and Helensburgh benefit from excellent transport connections, including direct rail links to Glasgow, and convenient access to the UK’s road network. Glasgow Airport is approximately 30 minutes by road.

The Position

This newly created position offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Luss Estates by maintaining, enhancing, and diversifying its rural asset portfolio, whilst delivering long-term economic, social and environmental benefits for the Estate and the wider communities within which it operates.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will combine experience in the traditional management of landed estates with the vision and commercial acumen to identify and realise new opportunities for sustainable growth. Applicants will be RICS qualified and demonstrate the ability to lead and inspire a diverse team, manage complex projects and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Key attributes include:

  • Strong leadership skills with an approachable, open-minded manner and empathy to build strong relationships and achieve successful outcomes.

  • A proven track record in the management of private landed estates with significant commercial activities.

  • An understanding of, and sensitivity to, the heritage and ethos of a multi-generational family estate.

  • A community focused outlook, with a commitment to environmental and social sustainability.

  • Working knowledge of Scottish legal systems, or the ability to become familiar with them.

  • A keen eye for detail, with an organised and methodical approach.

Reporting to the current Laird and Chairman Sir Malcolm Colquhoun, the Board of Directors, and the Trustees, this role offers an outstanding opportunity for professional growth and influence. The successful candidate will bring ambition, drive and diplomacy to shape the strategic direction of the Estate, while safeguarding the heritage and historic lands of this ancient Clan for generations to come.
