Luss Estates Company
Luss Estates is a diverse multi-enterprise rural business that extends over 45,000 acres west of Loch Lomond - an iconic landscape popular with visitors from around the world.
We are seeking an experienced 2nd Stalker to assist our Head stalker in the delivery of our deer management plan across farmland, woodland, forestry, and hill. Our stalkers prioritise the delivery of an ambitions annual cull, and therefore seldom take guests. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role, and similar terrain. Stalking experience is an obvious must, but proficiency in the use of tracked sit-in and sit-astride ATV’s is almost equally important.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated and work with flexibility and dedication. They will be solutions focused and enjoy working in challenging conditions. They will be comfortable working alone, in a team, and in a public facing environment - acting as an ambassador for the estate.
Key Responsibilities:
Working alongside the Head Stalker to achieve annual Deer cull targets.
Vermin control.
Working alongside the wider estate team carrying out maintenance tasks including but not limited to Fencing, Bridges, Track Repairs and Chainsaw work.
Participating in environmental work such as habitat monitoring and habitat enhancement.
Ensure a safe working environment and standards are maintained.
Demonstrate a level of flexibility to perform other tasks associated with the safe and efficient operation of the estate.
Requirements:
Previous experience of red deer management across woodland forestry and hill, ideally in an area with significant public access.
A good level of fitness and aptitude for working in challenging terrain.
At least 2 years’ experience in the use of tracked sit-in and/or sit-astride ATV’s.
Valid UK Driving Licence.
Qualifications:
Essential
Shotgun and Firearms certification
ATV sit-in and/or sit/astride certification
DMQ level 1&2
Clean valid UK driving licence
Desirable
Habitat monitoring experience
Current off road driving qualification
Chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting
Other plant training
