Fuelling the community.

“Set by the shores of Loch Lomond, the village of Luss has a population of less than 200, and completely reliant on local services.”

A vital asset on the banks of Loch Lomond.

Luss and the west side of Loch Lomond has always been a strategic point for travellers heading north and south. The old Luss road carried traffic into the heart of the Scottish highlands, towards Fort William and on to the Isles and Inverness.

In the early 20th century, once vehicular traffic popularised the arterial routes in the highlands, Luss Estates installed a small filling station pump serving passing traffic, and more vitally, the local community.

Luss Estates built a filling station in 1965, but by the start of the 1990s it was losing money and ultimately closed.

Reviving a community service.

The site was unoccupied until around 2014, when, led by Sir Malcolm Colquhoun, an automated 24 hour filling station was established on the old site. Working in partnership with Gulf / Tokheim, Luss Estates opened the new filling station in the summer of 2014. The community now had access to a facility that saved over 25 miles (round trip) and promised to deliver fair pricing in line with its status as a vital community service.
